Wind Technology Podcast adds New Host

We’re excited to bring a new voice (and viewpoint) to the Uptime podcast!

Dr. Rosemary Barnes, wind turbine blade and renewable energy expert, recently joined Uptime to co-host along with Dan Blewett and Allen Hall.

Many will recognize Barnes from her YouTube channel, Engineering with Rosie.

With 20 years of experience working with developing renewable energy technologies, Barnes has a broad following and has produced numerous engineering and technology programs, including several for the Australian government.

“I know Rosemary has worked very closely with manufacturers, wind operators, and researchers to improve the technology this industry relies on, and is helping develop new technology to continue making advances for safer, more efficient operations,” said Weather Guard founder and president Allen Hall. “With her on the podcast, we’ll have even more actionable information to share.”

“I’m eager to converse more with Allen and Dan about new technology, research, and developments in the wind energy industry,” Barnes said. “Allen’s expertise in lightning protection is extensive, and the people he’s connected with in wind have provided a lot of insight, which has been useful across the whole industry.”

“We may not always see issues the same way, which is another reason these conversations are so important. In a young and growing technology, candid discussions and even disagreements help push improvements across the board,” she said. “I tell everyone in the wind industry to listen every week! There’s a lot going on!”

About Dr. Rosemary Barnes

Barnes holds a PhD from the University of New South Wales and did her undergraduate studies at The Australian National University and UC Davis an emphasis in composite structures. She spent much of her work career at LM Wind Power in Denmark working on advanced blade de-icing technologies. Years before the Texas ice storm that knocked too many turbines off-line, Barnes took Wind Systems Magazine readers inside an ice lab to explain how electro-thermal heating and hot air systems worked to protect wind turbine blades and prevent turbine ice damage.

As long as Barnes has worked with developing technologies in the wind energy industry, she has shared her knowledge with others via her YouTube channel, the Australian Science Channel, and the Australian Manufacturing Forum, as well as with countless wind energy companies and renewables organizations. Barnes is currently the CEO of Pardalote where she uses her expertise in renewable energy and composites to support Australia’s burgeoning green energy sector.

Podcasts and magazines are different types of news sources – and both are desperately needed in this time of rapid change. Having 300,000+ YouTube subscribers and 250,000+ podcast downloads were not our goals when we started the podcast; connecting with other industry experts was our mission. This article goes behind the scenes with both the podcast and the magazine.
